Reading Newsgroups

If you subscribe to a news server, you can use Mosaic to read Usenet newsgroups. To post articles to newsgroups, a dedicated news program is needed.

To configure Mosaic to access newsgroups:

1. From the Edit menu, choose Preferences.

2. Choose the Miscellaneous panel, if necessary.

3. In the News Server field, enter the domain name or IP address of your news server.

4. Choose the OK button.

To read newsgroups:

• To list the available newsgroups, type news:* in the URL field. An alphabetical list of newsgroups with brief descriptions is displayed. To list the articles in a newsgroup, click the name of the newsgroup.

• To access a particular newsgroup, enter the URL using the syntax news:newsgroup. For example: news:news.announce.newusers.

  NOTE: Unlike other URLs, news URLs do not include slashes (//) after the colon.

• When you first access a newsgroup, the subject lines of the first 20 articles are listed. Click a subject line to display the full article. If an article is related to other messages, links to the related articles are provided.

• To list a range of articles, type the URL of the newsgroup, followed by a slash and the range of articles. For example, news:news.answers/38179-38198
